General Chiropody Treatment

There can  be many reasons for visiting a Podiatrist/Chiropodist.  These can be as simple as patients being unable to reach their own feet and needing their nails cut, right through to very intensive treatments where the Podiatrist is trying to prevent infection and ulceration from taking hold in a diabetic patient.
All of these problems can be easily dealt with by a visit to the Tamar Podiatry Clinic.
A 30 minute appointment consists of cutting of nails, removal of hard skin and corns where needed, and professional foot health advice from a fully qualified podiatrist.

Ingrown Toenails (Onychocryptosis)

One of the most common complaints seen by a Podiatrist is an ingrown toenail.  Very often these can be treated painlessly and will not recur.  On occasion patients with a long history of the condition may consider a partial or total nail removal, thus ensuring no further problems with this painful condition.  This is performed under local anaesthetic and patients will normally be fully functioning again hours after the procedure.

Podiatric Biomechanics and Orthotics

A foot is a biological marvel of 26 bones, 33 joints and 107 ligaments and all linked by a complex network of muscles, nerves, blood vessels and skin.  The feet contain one quarter of the body's bones, and the skin on the plantar area of the foot is 32 times thicker than that on the abdomen.  The average pair of feet take eight to ten thousand steps each day and travel 115,000 miles in a lifetime.
Feet can suffer from more than 300 ailments.  Treating these ailments requires intensive, specialised education and training - the training received by Podiatrists.
At the Tamar Podiatry Clinic we believe that in order to become and to stay proficient in our profession post -graduate study is a must.  We are actively involved in the training of Podiatrists to the highest level.

Would it surprise you to know.....
That a substantial part of your back trouble, hip pain, neck stiffness or knee clicking may be associated with or may be directly a result of poor foot function.  Yet you will undoubtedly be aware of the rocking of a chair or table when one leg is shorter than the rest.  What do you think would happen to your spine, hip or pelvis if you were to wear only one shoe with a 2 inch heel added to it?  And how many times have you seen the cracked walls in a new house whose foundation is 'settling unevenly'?  Well the identical things happen in the Human Body.
Today there is a new field in medical technology called Biomechanics.  It is a fairly young, highly technical branch of medical engineering which deals in large part with human motion and helps us determine limits of normality and abnormality.  As a result of this new work, biomechanically oriented Podiatrists have the ability to examine for biomechanical faults of the feet and legs, make certain determinations and diagnoses and establish and treatment plan, which will normally involve an exercise plan and the prescription of custom made insoles to wear in your footwear.

Mr Willis is a specialist in treating functional and structural abnormalities of the lower limb, and has successfully helped hundreds of patients.  Common conditions which may benefit from the formulation of a custom made orthotic are Heel pain, Achilles Tendinitis, Knee pain, Hip pain and lower back problems to name a few.
